Here at Thornloe we are committed to protecting the Environment and use energy saving light bulbs wherever possible, re-cycle all paper, newspaper, glass, plastic bottles, batteries, metal cans and ink cartridges.
We use environmentally friendly cleaning products throughout the house www.enjo.co.uk as well as recycled paper. Additionally we use locally produced organic toiletries from Purdie's the Scottish soap company www.purdies.org
During 2010 we changed all of our washing machines/dryers and fridges to A rated appliances. Since 2011 our booking system now automatically confirms your booking by email as well as sending a reminder in advance of your stay and then your invoice. This has significantly reduced our printing & postage costs however if you need a printed invoice then please let us know beforehand.
As well as regular teas and coffees we also offer Fair Trade products and wherever possible use locally produced products including the organic biscuits in the bedrooms from the Isle of Mull bakery. Towels across the world are washed daily often unnecessarily so we would ask that you re-use your towels. Damp towels can be left on the electric towel radiator in your bathroom to dry. To save energy the towels radiators are on a timer and come on in the morning and evenings randomly.
We monitor our energy consumption and encourage natural wildlife with several bird feeders and nesting boxes in our garden. In the summer when our Buddleia is in full bloom it is a mass of butterflies.
Rainwater collected in our water butt is used to water the garden as well as the water extracted from our condenser dryer.
If we know in advance that our guests are arriving by public transport we offer to pick them up from the bus or train station or ferry terminal here in Oban during normal check in times of 3-7pm.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Please switch off the television when you leave the room/go to bed ie not using the remote control and switching off the lights.
Most importantly please check that you have not left chargers plugged in without say a mobile phone attached as this is also a fire hazard.
Leave any unwanted papers/magazines/cardboard/bottles next to the bin for recycling.
